Jon-Mark is back from Louisville, KY for the holiday and he will be joined by 2 old friends for an evening of acoustic rock.

You should remember Jon-Mark from Centered one of Ithaca's most popular rock bands of the 90's (ouch! makes us feel old to say that)

and Matt Barnes aka Tom Fury also used to rock Ithaca's stages as the frontman for Bent Peg

Mike Hunter continues the ex-member trend... he was a member of the more recently defunct Armageddon Monks and still graces our stage as a member of The Gunpoets and other projects...

Driftwood

Driftwood
Incorporating acoustic instruments and elements of Old Time, Blues, Jazz and Modern music, these Shanty Rockers have put together a Traditional/Original show that’s nothing short of world class music. Driftwood’s virtuosity is matched by their versatility and they are able to play sweet and sultry ballads with as much drive and passion as an up-tempo whiskey-fuelled romp. For these reasons, Driftwood has been in high demand by Upstate audiences of all persuasions. “Driftwood draws you into their world by mixing clever lyrics with beautiful melodies. They delight listeners and leave them begging for one more song.” -Michael Kinney-WSKG TV “Man you ultimate funky!” -George Clinton-Parliament Funkadelic.

Hee Haw Nightmare
Hee Haw Nightmare isn’t a grunge band, or a blues band, or a metal band — they’re a down-home, intensely ribald American roots and old time band. Throw Phil Ochs into some sticky swamp in Alabama and you’ll have a better idea of what their sound is like. And when you conjure this image — overalls, upright bass, banjo, sleeveless t-shirts, lots of plaid, plenty of whiskey — well, you need a fiddle.

Naturally Kincaid, Watrous, and Noonan (a Ph. D. candidate at Cornell University who Kincaid wryly calls a “professional mathematician”), gravitated toward native fiddle-playing stalwart Brian ‘Sid’ Burke. Burke was already playing in a number of fairly established bands in the Ithaca area, and the trio realized it was a bit of a long shot. Lo and behold, a few months later, Hee Haw Nightmare had acquired its fourth member, and the foundations had been laid for their now initimable sound.

The Sutras

The Family Knife

Hubcap

This concert is organized in the honor of the late Derek “D-Rock” Tripp, former bass player of The Sutras and active member of member of the Ithaca music community. Derek struggled with mental illness and addiction throughout most of his adult life and finally took his own life at age 33 in the summer of 2007. He was a dedicated husband, loyal friend and gifted musician. This concert is intended to raise awareness for mental health issues and to help support relevant mental health providers in the Ithaca community. This year’s concert will benefit Family and Children’s services of Ithaca, the primary private non-profit provider of mental health services in Tompkins County for children, adolescents, adults, seniors, and families. McNeil’s Music of Ithaca and 92 WICB are providing corporate sponsorship for the event. Music will begin at 9pm and the suggested donation is $10. All proceeds go to Family and Children’s Services of Ithaca. www.fcsith.org

Saturday Dec 05
The Tundra Toes

The Tundra Toes
An Ithaca staple in the Spring of ’07, The Tundra Toes have often been described as what happens when Tom Waits takes a bath with Isaac Brock. On their debut album the sounds range from traditional old time country to New Orleans blues to straight up rock. Unlike most “genre-defying” groups, The Toes link their songs together with a general disregard for order and a love of chaos. The standout rock song “Fish Hooks” is complete with solos and a hook that you’ll have to bite into. Get ready for smashing plates, things falling, breaking, and lots of screaming.

Kites in Space
If you could pick one word to describe Kites in Space mix of ballads, power pop gems, and straight forward rock that makes you want to stand up and scream along with your stereo, it would be anthemic. The ingenuity of the recoding process comes through on every bit of the record. From the eclectic percussive sounds (see the beginning of Manifest Destiny) to the booming stomps and claps in Cords wrapped too tight(the album was recorded in various rooms of an empty house), KIS display their progressive style of music making.

Caution Children
Caution Children is a six person band that delivers a “ferocious, anthemic brand of pop-rock". Playing with the likes of The Hold Steady and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Caution Children is exploding on the Ithaca scene. The band plans to record its first album this winter.

Dandy Little Lions
Are you lookin' to get shookin'? Are you ancey to get dancey? Then Dandy Little Lions is for you. DLL is just three young gents trying to find the answer to one fundamental question: What Happened to All the Awesome? Come along with us.

Melvin Seals and JGB

Melvin Seals and JGB
Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer, recording artist and producer. Melvin is most revered for his powerful, high-spirited, Hammond B-3 organ, and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become "Jam Band Music". From blues to funk to rock to jazz, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up.

Melvin and JGB brings an intuitive, expressive style, soul, spontaneity and remarkable chops to the table. With acoustic and electric ingredients and unique combinations of Stu Allen's guitar and amazing vocals, Jimmy Tebeau's savory bass, Mark Corsolini's hearty drums and, of course, a heapin' helpin' of the wizard's magic on Hammond B-3 Organ and keyboards. Along with Shirley Starks and Cheryl Rucker on back-up vocals, the result is a most satisfying blend of natural organic grooves that challenges genre boundaries. Their chemistry is the focus from which they create a spontaneous and high art where the sky is the limit musically. They offer an exciting, often psychedelic musical journey that changes nightly and keeps the audience dancing and smiling (and some staring in amazement) for hours.

Adding his rock-gospel-soul-rhythm and blues touch with his funky style of playing, no wonder Jerry nicknamed him "Master of the Universe". Melvin continues to treat music lovers to his unique brand of melodic flavor with JGB. Come see and hear for yourself!

Jimkata

Jimkata
Just when you think you've heard it all, Jimkata has emerged from the depths of the modern collective conscience to convince you otherwise. Members Evan Friedell (lead vocals/guitar), Aaron Gorsch (guitar/keys/vocals), Dave Rossi (bass/vocals) and Packy Lunn (drum kit/vocals) have set out to create a sound that is both new and timeless.

Described as "one of the best up-and-coming bands" by jambase.com, Jimkata can best be described as electro-rock. Combining hair-raising rock and roll with an industrial touch of synthesizers, the sound has powerful momentum and their songs leave permanent impressions. While this four piece is inspired by the world of improvisational and progressive music, Jimkata focuses on song structure, textures, layers and vibrant lyrics.

Lost Sailors

Lost Sailors
Lost Sailors has been playing for over 12 years, has performed over 400 shows, and is widely considered to be the premier interpretive Grateful Dead tribute band in Upstate N.Y. We've built a solid reputation for high-energy, carefully-crafted, and unpredictable performances, as well as the most consistently enjoyable club sound production around.

Their shows follow the Grateful Dead's traditional two-long-sets format, with a wide-ranging mix of rock, folk, blues, and country-pickin', mainly electric with some acoustic treatments. Improvisational jams are punctuated by sweet ballads and classic show stoppers. Music people of all ages and tastes love to listen and dance to.

Sim Redmond Band

Sim Redmond Band
New Year's Eve with SRB at Castaways!!!
...an Ithaca tradition.

"The Sim Redmond Band makes early-morning music, served sunny-side up. Each New Day, the collective’s fifth album, draws cloudless, Vitamin C melodies from elements of reggae, Carribean and Afro-beat. Polished by the band’s seven-year tenure, coupled with a studio sheen that coats this album, the septet’s optimism is infectious, piqued by tight, polyrhythmic drumming and fortified by brass crescendos. Easy and overly melodic, Redmond’s hazy voice is complimented by the angelic tone of Jen Middaugh, the two harmonizing together above the reverberating, sonar grooves..."
-Jamie Lee, Relix Magazine

The Gunpoets
With a passion and energy rarely seen, The Gunpoets bring their revolutionary new school rap sound to the world as they fuse cutting edge hip-hop with a call for strength and unity. Explosive yet calm, cool and soothing, their vibe is one of rebellion and love.

IT'S TIME TO GET HIP TO FRED EAGLESMITH
Cult Sensation and Americana Music Hero Is a Songwriter's Songwriter and Critics' Favorite (Los Angeles) Award-winning singer-songwriter Fred Eaglesmith inspires comparisons to icons like Woody Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen, tops the roots music charts, and boasts devoted fans that include a slew of his fellow songwriters. High-profile tastemakers in the know ? fellow musicians like Toby Keith and The Cowboy Junkies as well as film folks like Martin Scorsese and James Caan, to name a few ? consider him one of the stellar musical and lyrical talents of our day. Though a decidedly grassroots artist in the thematic focus of his songs and how he pursues his career, playing some 180 shows a year across North America as well as Europe and Australia and releasing his own records under his cheekily-titled A Major Label imprint, Eaglesmith boasts an impact that far better known musical acts can only dream of.
